Customer Showcase: 15mm Late War British Infantry by Shaun Hatton

There is no better way to judge 15mm wargaming figures than seeing them painted, based and ready for the tabletop. Battle Honours 3D customer Shaun Hatton recently shared his completed 15mm Late War British Infantry, built from several figures across our WW2 British Infantry in Battle Dress range.

Building a Late War British Infantry force in 15mm

Shaun's force combines riflemen, Bren gun teams and command figures to create varied infantry bases rather than repeating the same pose throughout the unit. Checking his Battle Honours 3D order confirms that the figures used came from five specific 15mm British Infantry lines.

These were the WW2 British Infantry – Standing Firing, Battle Dress, WW2 British Infantry – Kneeling, Battle Dress, WW2 British Infantry – Bren Gun Team Firing Prone, Battle Dress, WW2 British Infantry – Advancing Bren Gun Team, Battle Dress and WW2 British Infantry – Command, Battle Dress.

Shaun's basing and painting method

Shaun based the figures individually on circular 15mm paper-board bases, then made four-man movement trays from leftover paper-board sprues. It is a simple approach that keeps the figures individually removable while still allowing them to move conveniently as a unit.

For painting, Shaun used a quick spray undercoat before painting the equipment, weapons and flesh. He then applied a strong-tone wash and touched up the figures once dry. The finished bases use grass, moss and small white flowers to break up the ground and give the unit a convincing field appearance.

British infantry on the late-war battlefield

By the later stages of the Second World War, the British infantry section combined riflemen with the Bren light machine gun, giving small units a mixture of movement and sustained firepower. That mix is particularly useful on the wargames table, where different poses can show riflemen advancing, firing and taking cover alongside the section's Bren team and command figures.

Shaun's finished unit shows why we produce individual poses rather than treating an infantry range as a single repeated sculpt. Standing, kneeling, prone and advancing figures create a much more natural-looking formation once they are combined across several bases.

Build your own 15mm British Infantry

All five of the figures used here are available from Battle Honours 3D in 15mm, alongside other scales in the WW2 British Infantry range. If you are building a late-war British force, mixing firing, advancing, support-weapon and command poses is an easy way to add variety while keeping the unit visually consistent.
