Deal Wargames Society - 15/08 - "What a Tanker!" With Ade
Embarking on my inaugural journey into "What a Tanker!", a tabletop wargame by TooFatLardies, was a nostalgic venture back to the days of tabletop warfare. A veteran of TFL's "I Ain't Been Shot Mum," it had been quite some time since my last foray into their rulebook realm.
The clash began auspiciously, as my trio of Shermans, led by the formidable M4A3E8, surged into action. Swiftly, I maneuvered, took cover, and eliminated a Mark IV tank in the opening salvos. Pushing forward, I managed to inflict damage on another Mark IV as my advance continued. Yet, even as fortune smiled, adversity lurked.
A tactical misstep led to my prized Easy 8 being ambushed and swiftly reduced to a blazing wreck while hidden among the woods. A stroke of bad luck, a notorious double 1 roll, dashed my hopes of eliminating the second adversary. Thereafter, the tides shifted with a vengeance. It was a symphony of chaos - collisions, clashes, and the screech of metal, as Wayne, aptly dubbed "Kampfgruppe Meier," orchestrated a fiery spectacle. My Shermans lit up like celebratory fireworks, transforming into a blazing scrap heap.
Nonetheless, despite my defeat, the experience was an exhilarating joyride. "What a Tanker!" revealed itself as a ruleset that's easy to grasp yet promises a steep learning curve for mastery. As the smoke cleared and the tanks cooled, I found myself relishing the game's intricacies. This initial encounter was but the opening chapter of what promises to be an engaging journey into tank warfare's heart and soul.
