Collection: 1870

1870 historical miniatures in this collection focus on the armies and warfare of continental Europe around the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71. The period brought together French Imperial troops and the forces of Prussia and its German allies in a conflict that changed the political map of Europe.

Franco-Prussian War miniatures

War began in July 1870 and quickly produced major battles including Wörth, Mars-la-Tour, Gravelotte and Sedan. The capture of Napoleon III at Sedan helped bring down the Second French Empire, although fighting continued under the French Third Republic until the armistice of 1871. The conflict demonstrated the growing importance of railways, rapid mobilisation, modern artillery and breech-loading rifles.

Use this collection for nineteenth-century historical wargaming, army building and dioramas centred on the Franco-Prussian War and related European forces of the era.
